Bulletin Board

On our bulletin board you will find updates on progress of renovations at the Hall, news on upcoming functions or new groups meeting at the Hall, and any other important news relating to the Hall. Please note updates are shown in reverse date order (most recent at the top).

Building work start
...the builder has today told me that work will start on Tuesday of next week. He will start with work in the Gents toilet on Tuesday and also sometime during the rest of the week start work on the outside ramp to the Ganger room. He will give me more details on Friday which I will pass on.

New Heating
Progress so far: On Monday the plant room was been cleared and the first warm air heater put in. Since then the connecting ducting has been fabricated and Connaught will be back on site to connect up and do electrical and flue work on Friday. This should not be a problem for users.

The second boiler is due to be installed next week - though as Connaught are still waiting for the redesigned case panels from the manufacturer, I cannot give an actual date yet.

New Heating
Connaught on site today. May be here tomorrow also depending on progress. Not rest of week as ducting has to be fabricated.

New Heating
Due to a problem fitting the new warm air heaters into the existing plant room at the Hall, the new heating system was delayed.

I am now glad to report that the problem has been resolved and work is now due to start on the 14th June. The work will be phased over the two week period from 14th June to 25th June. There may be some disruption during the heating installation during the daytime for the two weeks starting the 14th June, but the Hall should still be usable, subject to some dislocation and noise particularly when equipment is being moved in and out of the plant room via the foyer.

It is also possible (watch this space) that RMR will be working on the refurbishment of the lavatories during this period, although is planned that al least one will always be working.

I have asked the contractors, Connaught, to make sure that the Hall is left safe to use when they are not on site. Evening sessions should be OK. When they are working, most of the time users should be able to use the Hall normally. If the foyer is blocked, users may have to use the side door to get in and out or to get to the kitchen, and use the lavatory at the back. At some point they may need access to the side rooms roof space to work on the ducting, but will schedule this around users if necessary.

If groups with small children involved wish to continue to use the Hall during this period, they must have provisions in place and enough staff to ensure that the children can't go wandering off into the foyer area by themselves and generally to make sure they are safe. If any group doesn't feel able to use the Hall under these conditions then please let Florence know as soon as possible.

The 14, 15th 16th will probably be busiest as that is when they will be taking out the old equipment and putting in the new heaters into the plant room. There may be a bit of a gap after that as they will need to have some ducting fabricated.

As soon as I know which days Connaught will or won't be on site I will post this information here, but this may be at a fairly late stage as they won't necessarily know what additional parts need to be fabricated until the main heaters are in place.
